ACWA Power signed the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Government of Egypt in October 2018 to develop, finance, construct and operate the Kom Ombo photovoltaic (PV) plant (officially titled 1 x 200 MW KOM OMBO Solar PV Power Project). The plant will generate 200 MW and is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2021. ACWA Power submitted the lowest tariff contracted to date for a solar energy project in North Africa. Once operational, Kom Ombo PV will cater to the power needs of 130 thousand households and offset 280 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year. The construction and development of the Kom Ombo plant bolsters the efforts of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to increase the overall capacity of renewable energy to 20% by 2020.
